SUSTAINABLE DITTISHAM

OUR PURPOSE

1. To ambitiously reduce our impact on the climate and environment through practical local action.

In small doable steps, and with our sights on big audacious goals.

3. To imagine and catalyse a better, more responsible, more wholesome way of life for ourselves, our community and beyond.

A way of life that supports us and promotes wellbeing.

2. To understand, appreciate, preserve and enhance our habitat & biodiversity.

The caretakers for the next generation, we should leave it better than we found it.

4. To do that in a participatory, collaborative, and fun way.

Working Together on many levels – in our group, in the parish with our partner groups - is the only way we'll get this done - and we might as well enjoy it along the way.

We are not a Political Activist group

 

'Political Activism' can mean different things to different people.  In this context it means:

 

  • As a group we are not aligned to any political party - either for or against.
  • We need to work closely with stakeholders which include councils, local authorities, big business, small business, farmers and so on - so it’s important that we are measured and sensible when it comes to communicating.
  • Whilst it is unlikley we will be chaining ourselves to railings that very much doesn’t mean that we could not decide to support petitions, write letters to MP’s, support declarations and so on.
  • Other organisations are already doing “frontline political activism”. No need to reinvent that wheel. What they seem to lack is the practical action which we focus on.

Some things that we are:

 

We are focused on Practical Local Action

●     We look for the positive, we avoid “them & us” we work WITH others.

●     We focus on things we can have an effect on right now.

●     Wherever possible we highlight the positive benefits, and the benefits which will mean most to people.

Electric cars for example are cheaper to run, more pleasant to drive and have less parts to go wrong. They also happen to emit far less CO2 over their lifetime than a petrol or diesel car.
