Creating connectivity between different ‘wilded’ areas in Dittisham parish and the parishes around by getting land owners involved to create a green network. Enabling public access into those green corridors.
Identifying redundant land in the parish and encouraging its re-wilding
Greening the green lanes
Seeing more landowners taking up environmental stewardship schemes
Increasing the number of wildflower meadows in the parish
Getting the parish hedges more wildlife friendly by reducing the amount of cutting, allowing them to grow higher and thicker and trees to grow up through them
Creating the right habitat to encourage birds we have lost, like turtle doves and nightingales, to return to the parish
Radically reducing all pesticide use in the parish, so increasing insect, mammal and birdlife
Seeing long extinct species such as beavers, lynx, wild boar, wolves, pine martens, sturgeon, goshawks, eagle owls and cranes re-introduced.
Achievable short term goals
Identifying suitable verges in the parish and encouraging wild flowers to grow on them
Creating more mini tree nurseries and so encouraging more trees, particularly those that help wildlife, to be planted in the parish
Encouraging gardeners in the parish to plant nectar rich perennials and wildlife friendly bushes and shrubs and encourage messier gardens to help wildlife
Identify special and old trees in the parish and help get them protection
Increasing the number of wildlife homes (bat and bird boxes, hedgehog homes, bee and insect hotels, ponds, log and stone piles, etc) in the parish
Starting to map all the different types of habitat that occur in the parish
Completing a one year record of all the flora and fauna in and around habitat group members homes and gardens
Starting to reduce pesticide use in the parish
Starting to map the wildflowers growing in the parish
Encouraging all parish residents, both gardeners and farmers, to leave one untouched patch in their garden or field, however small, as a food source and secure space.
