Those with less than us.
When it comes to food we can start to help each other by sharing and trading what we have with each other – I’m sure that’s already happening.
But what about those with even less?
I messaged Dartmouth Food Bank to see what they might need.
They said:
“We only open on a Wednesday between 11 and 1p.m. at present. It’s all we can do with a limited number of volunteers ( though more are offering to help).
Cash donations are coming in so we could order more food from Asda.
Our constraint is finding accessible storage where we can make up extra food parcels; Their constraint is the pressure on supplies from panic buying. The delivery on Wednesday was down by approx. 50%.
Apart from ideas as to how to resolve these problems, donations of ‘ambient’ food would be most helpful: i.e. packaged, long life. Tinned meat & fish, lentils, peanut butter are much appreciated because they are expensive to buy.”

So I wonder how we can help? Any smart ideas about “accessible storage” in Dartmouth?
Could we prepare some suitable spare food, leave it for 24hrs to reduce risk of transmission, and then someone could take it in?
For a start we will start getting a box ready in Capton. I’ll put it in the open fronted shed by John & Susi’s Nissan hut opposite our house – that’s an accessible and safe place – because we are in isolation at the moment.
Thanks,
🙂
