We're proudly part of the Sustainable South Hams (SSH) group of groups - and had one of the regular meetings today.
Alastair Mumford from came and told us about the wonderfully named ORCS - on street residential chargepoint scheme, with potential funding for parish councils. I said - yes please for our parish.
Lots of v rapid 50kW evchargingstations are going in at Exeter.
And he thanked us for all our efforts. Which is appreciated. 🙂
Ben Allerton spoke about Co Cars & Co Bikes - a not for profit that offer a shared mobility service.
Every Co-cars car takes 6-10 normal cars off the road.
By 2022 they will have 50+ electricvehicles and low E vehicles - right now they have 35.
They also do bikes which can be unlocked from docking station then returned to any other. An App can be used to book a car. Has to be returned to where you got it - the hire ends and you are billed for the time. Starting at £6.50/hr for EVs.
They like to encourage mobility hubs with cars and bikes in same location to create less car-centric spaces.
Exeter station is a great example which has been transformed to be more people-centric: the pic shows a larger pedestrian area, co- Bikes, Co cars, a "normal" bus stop, and one of their EV delivery bikes.
Adapt existing infrastructure and space to be used in a better way is not rocket science!
Sylvia Dell spoke - she is the Totnes & Area Green Travel Projects
They are section 106 funded, investigating an E car club and bike hire scheme, a 20 mph speed limit for all of Totnes area.
She says (quite rightly) that a safer environment is needed to promote bike riding.
Totnes exceeds air quality targets regularly - they will be distributing air quality meters, developing some more cycle paths - though these are expensive projects.
They have a Bob the bus service and are trialing a park and ride over the summer.
Totnes Bike Hub is being started by Lizzie Woodall - repairs and lessons on how to fix them yourselves, mentors, DCC cycle training schemes.
They are investigating Co-charger.com - where a private resident can install a charger which is used by others too (potentially for a profit). (Like Podpoint do too)

Ruth Saunders - who has spent 23 yrs rewilding - is planning a 1st SSH field trip in Sept - to 3 venues with the topic of Biodiversity and Wildlife.
Simon Oldridge (SSH coordinator) went over the SSH core principals, purpose strategy and structure.
