Gardening for Wildlife by The Untidy Gardeners
Welcome to this new monthly column which has grown out of the meetings held by the Habitat and Gardening Group of Sustainable Dittisham.
Sustainable Dittisham is an independent group dedicated to understanding, sharing information on and improving the environment of the parish of Dittisham and so reduce our impact on climate change. Everyone from the parish is welcome to join; all ages, whether you live here, work here or have a connection to the area. We will also seek to collaborate closely with the parish council, and other stakeholders in the area and surrounding Parishes.
The group is split into specialist subgroups on the topics of: Habitat and Gardens, Transport, Food & Farming, Energy and Buildings, Waste & Recyling, Art and Celebration.
All the sub-groups have set short and long term goals. We will try our best to achieved these goals through projects which aim to make improvements which we can all make in a matter of days or weeks, to ambitious projects that seek to use more locally produced food, energy and heat as well as improving biodiversity and creating habitats.
Many of these things can improve our quality of life and encourage our local economy at the same time.
There are monthly meetings and then the subgroups meet as and when they want in the meantime.

One of the goals for the Habitat an Gardens group is to encouraging gardeners in the parish to plant nectar rich perennials and wildlife friendly bushes and shrubs and encourage messier gardens to help wildlife.
